Ragdolls are a man-made breed, created in the 1960’s by the late Anne Baker. The history of this breed has always been surrounded by myths one of the most common being that they were the cross between three purebred cats. The truth is the Ragdoll was created from the matings of several mixed breed cats. Their offspring were taken and selectively bred to create the Ragdoll look that we see today. Thanks to the hard work and love of the early breeders we have the wonderful cats you see today.

The Ragdoll is a medium to large cat with altered males about 15-20 pounds at full maturity and altered females being about 5 pounds less., because they are a slow maturing breed they may not reach their full maturity until they are about two to three years old. Ragdolls are always pointed, meaning that they have their color on their extremities (ears, face, feet and tail). Ragdolls like all pointed cats have blue eyes.

Ragdolls are known as the dog lovers cats. Ragdolls love to follow their people around from room to room, many will learn to play fetch and walk on a harness. The thing the Ragdoll is most famous for is their unique trait of going limp in your arms like a child’s Ragdoll toy. Ragdolls are known for being quiet cats, this does not mean that Ragdolls do not talk but rather that they are soft voiced. The Ragdolls coat is very soft, silky and plush which feels more like bunny fur than cat fur. The best thing about the Ragdoll is that you get all these wonderful trait wrapped up in a beautiful package.
